Welcome. In this post, we will be seeing the process of e-verification of ITR or Income Tax Returns i.e., how to verify your e-filing without sending the ITR-V to Income Tax Department.

What is e-verification of ITR?

Generally, ITR verification was done by downloading the ITR-V, signing and sending into the CPC. But in an effort towards paperless e-filing, the Govt has come up with these new e-verification processes.

Once you successfully complete e-filing at Income Tax Department account, you can verify your ITR using online in 6 different ways.

6 Different ways of e-verification of ITR include:

Using any of these processes, you can generate an Electronic Verification Code (EVC).

What is EVC or Electronic Verification Code?

The EVC is a 10-digit alphanumeric number which you can use to e-verify your Income Tax Return. EVC unique for each PAN and is valid for only 72 hours from the time of generation.

Important points to note about the electronic verification code are:

  1. The purpose of EVC is to verify the identity of the person filing the income tax return.
  2. You can use EVC for verification of ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4.
  3. If you are e-verifying via your mobile number & email ID, then eligibility criteria are:
    • your total income is less than 5 lakhs
    • you have no refund request
  4. EVC is unique to the PAN of the person furnishing the ITR. This means one EVC per PAN.
